Iran Parliamentary Elections

TEHRAN, March 2 (UPI) -- Iranians voted Friday to select 290 members of the Majlis, the country's Parliament, the first elections since the 2009 presidential contest.

Iranian TV broadcast video of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei voting in Tehran and saying it was the "duty and a right" of Iranians to cast ballots, the BBC reported.

"Because of the controversies over Iran and increased verbal threats, the more people come to the polling stations the better for the country," Khamenei said. "The vote always carries a message for our friends and our enemies."

Statistics prove prescription drugs are 16,400% more deadly than terrorists

America was rudely awakened to a new kind of danger on September 11, 2001: Terrorism. The attacks that day left 2,996 people dead, including the passengers on the four commercial airliners that were used as weapons. Many feel it was the most tragic day in U.S. history.
Four commercial jets crashed that day. But what if six jumbo jets crashed every day in the United States, claiming the lives of 783,936 people every year? That would certainly qualify as a massive tragedy, wouldn't it?

Well, forget "what if." The tragedy is happening right now. Over 750,000 people actually do die in the United States every year, although not from plane crashes. They die from something far more common and rarely perceived by the public as dangerous: modern medicine.

According to the groundbreaking 2003 medical report Death by Medicine, by Drs. Gary Null, Carolyn Dean, Martin Feldman, Debora Rasio and Dorothy Smith, 783,936 people in the United States die every year from conventional medicine mistakes. That's the equivalent of six jumbo jet crashes a day for an entire year. But where is the media attention for this tragedy? Where is the government support for stopping these medical mistakes before they happen?

After 9/11, the White House gave rise to the Department of Homeland Security, designed to prevent terrorist attacks on U.S. soil. Since its inception, billions of dollars have been poured into it. The 2006 budget allots $34.2 billion to the DHS, a number that has come down slightly from the $37.7 billion budget of 2003.

Wikileaks : Stratfor CEO resigns after Wikileaks revelation

Wikileaks today announced they are releasing 5,000 emails belonging to the intelligence and risk assessment company Stratfor, a move which has seen the resignation of the company's CEO and founder George Friedman.

Anonymous hacked the company in December and has been working with Wikileaks to release the information. The hacktivist group said that Stratfor was "clueless […] when it comes to database security", and that passwords were not encrypted and often they were simply the name of the company.

Friedman resigned in an email sent to all clients and subscribers of Stratfor. He said “In the light of the recent events, especially the release of our company emails by WikiLeaks, I have decided that stepping down is in the best interest of Stratfor and its customer base,” he wrote.

“We [Stratfor] certainly do not condone any criminal activities by groups like Anonymous or other hackers. This is theft and we will continue to cooperate with law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice.”

He made no reference to any of allegations and suspicious practices of his and his company's, instead explaining his resignation as a consequence of failure to ensure full data protection in his firm. “While I played no role in our technical operations, as the company's CEO I do accept full responsibility thus will resign from my position effective immediately,” Friedman concluded.

Stratfor in a separate statement said:

"In December, thieves compromised Stratfor’s data systems and stole a large number of company emails, along with other private information of Stratfor readers, subscribers and employees. Those stolen emails apparently will be published by Wikileaks. This is a deplorable, unfortunate — and illegal — breach of privacy.

Some of the emails may be forged or altered to include inaccuracies; some may be authentic. We will not validate either. Nor will we explain the thinking that went into them. Having had our property stolen, we will not be victimized twice by submitting to questioning about them.

took place in school cafeteria: report says
CHARDON, Ohio -- Gunfire at a high school outside Cleveland injured four students Monday morning, officials said, and at least one suspect has been taken into custody.

FBI agent Scott Wilson said after Monday morning's shooting that there was one suspected shooter. He wouldn't discuss the extent of the students' injuries.

Civil deputy Erin Knife with the Geauga County Sheriff's Office said the shooting was reported around 7:30 a.m. at Chardon High School.

Television news footage showed anxious parents escorting children away from a school building and multiple ambulances could be seen outside.

A local official tells the Cleveland Plain Dealer that at least four students - three boys and one girl - were shot in the school’s cafeteria and described the suspect as a boy.

A parent who said her son witnessed the shooting told the Plain Dealer the alleged gunman "stood up and started shooting, and then it was chaos."

Superintendent Joseph Bergant II tells television station WKYC that the alleged culprit is in custody. He says he doesn't know the extent of the students' injuries.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland's MetroHealth System said Monday a medical helicopter was dispatched to the high school.

Schools in the area were locked down.

Chardon is a city of about 5,100 in northeast Ohio about 30 miles east of Cleveland.

About 1,100 students attend the high school.
